As interventional radiologists, we have opportunities for dismantling the structural inequities and social injustices that affect healthcare delivery, procedural outcomes, and the health and well-being of our patients and practitioners. Our session was developed to highlight mechanisms for recognizing and reducing disparities in the provision of care provided by IR.
The UPMC Department of Radiology hosted a summer picnic for the clinical faculty and trainees on Saturday, July 30th in North Park. This was a great opportunity to reconnect old friends and meet the newest additions to the team. Jaden’s Catering provided on-site grilling for the cookout. The food, company, and weather all made for an enjoyable day!

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh have received Centers of Excellence designation by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. The center of excellence designation recognizes the commitment to clinical care, delivery of therapy with strong follow-up, and research in the field.
Ahmed Al-Khafaji MD (UPMC IR '23, UPitt PSTP '17) awarded $55,000 from the Beckwith Institute for his project, "Radiogenomics of Y90-treated Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases." Mentored by UPMC radiologists Rivka Colen MD and Anish Ghodadra MD.
