2021-07-28 RE: MRRC: Service for EPI Core Parameters

July 28, 2021

Dear MRRC Users,

B0 shimming is critical for BOLD and DWI imaging to acquire high signal but less artifacts. Particularly, EPI distortion artifacts due to slow sampling rate in phase encoding direction need to be corrected in post-processing, for example, by using field map information. However, there is one important condition for this correction, that is, B0 shimming must be same between BOLD/DWI EPI and field map scan.

Therefore, checking if correct shimming applied in your BOLD or DWI study is important as quality control. MRRC provides B0 shim values per BOLD, DWI and field map sequences of your study, and added to the table of EPI (BOLD/DWI) core parameters.

Details and examples are attached in the email. If you have any question, please contact Dr. Moon, moonc@upmc.edu.
